As you can see the front has been totally painted solid.
The surface of it would not have held any paint for very long.
Now, though, it should last through a nuclear winter.

Another added benefit to enamel is that it is much more durable than latex.
But it does take forever to dry (at least 24 hours)
and you have to use mineral spirits to clean your brushes and thin the paint.
